My Hands-on Test: DP8005
I also used it to glue automotive interior plastic (polypropylene) to itself, and the bond was rock solid. In comparison, when I used JB Weld for plastic on the other side (does jb weld work on plastic), it adhered for only about five days before popping off cleanly. The residual JB Weld peeled off easily, proving its lack of adhesion. The 3M DP8005, on the other hand, surpassed my expectations with its strength and durability.
Bond a large HDPE sheet
One particular use case where DP8005 proved its worth was when I needed to bond a large HDPE sheet to a frame for an outdoor grill prep station.

The other plunger that comes as standard is designed for 48 or 50ml cartridges with a ratio of 1:1 or 2:1.
Q: Can this adhesive bond to ABS or Schedule 80 plastics?

Repair a Polyethylene Water Tank
I also used DP8010 to repair a polyethylene water tank on my boat, and let me tell you, the bond it creates is fantastic! It’s super strong and has held up well. In fact, I’ve even used it for other gluing applications, and it has performed admirably. Yes, it’s not cheap, and you do need a new applicator tip with each use, but as they say, you get what you pay for.
Stick Some Tefzel Plastic Brackets
Now, let’s talk about a unique challenge I faced with DP8010. I wanted to stick some Tefzel plastic brackets to the side of a gearbox that runs at around 115 degrees Celsius. Tefzel is the chemical name for Teflon, so you can imagine the difficulty in sticking Teflon to something that has a surface temperature hotter than boiling water. But guess what? DP8010 came through! It held the brackets securely, and I could even hang 10lbs off them without any issues.
To use DP8010, I cleaned the HDPE surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. I hastened the curing process a little with a heater and then let it sit for 48 hours before pressurizing. The ambient temperature during the curing process was about 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it was cured, the adhesive became as hard as tire rubber.
There are a couple of drawbacks. It takes about 4-6 minutes to set, even when the surface is already at 115 degrees Celsius. So, for vertical surfaces, you need to mechanically hold it in place while it sets. The other drawback is the cost. Holy mackerel, this stuff is expensive! But for a one-off application like mine, it made sense to invest in it.
Q: Can I use DP8010 on a polyethylene Kayak with a 6-inch crack on the top?
A: DP8010 will effectively repair the crack on your polyethylene Kayak. To ensure a strong bond, I recommend placing a patch of rigid plastic behind the crack before applying the epoxy.
