Value for Money

In terms of value for money, Goop Glue exceeds expectations. While the product may seem thick, it spreads easily and covers a significant area. I find that a little goes a long way, and the one-ounce size is ideal for most of my projects. The glue’s consistency may thicken over time, but it remains perfectly usable for a year or two. This longevity ensures that I can rely on Goop Glue whenever I need it, without worrying about its effectiveness.

❌Cons

I must mention that Goop Glue is not suitable for fixing small objects or cracks due to its thickness. However, for larger-scale projects, it is an excellent choice. The strong bond it creates is reliable and long-lasting, giving me confidence in its performance.

Yes, it can be used to attach the foam to plastic, but it's recommended to scour the plastic surface with 220 grit first and make sure it's clean with acetone or 90% alcohol.

My Hands-on Test of E6000

E6000
I recently purchased this E6000 glue for some beveled jewelry projects and I am extremely pleased with the results. The product arrived quickly in good packaging and is perfect for working with various materials such as leather, gemstones, bones, and metal. It is easy to work with and cures well even in humid conditions. The bond created between dissimilar materials, like a metal hoop and a stone pendant, is strong and durable.

✅Versatile E6000

One of my favorite things about E6000 is its versatility. Need to repair a torn convertible soft top? No problem, just clamp it down and let this glue work its magic overnight. Looking to fasten two pieces of wood together for a project? E6000 has got you covered. I’ve even used it to glue soles back onto shoes, and those babies are still going strong months later.

This glue dries to a clear, flexible finish, making it perfect for outdoor projects like repairing that little red wagon in the backyard. However, I’ve seen some feedback that it can dry with a colored tint when used for certain applications like gluing glass to glass, so invisibility may be an issue there.

Speaking of waterproof, I’ve even used E6000 to bond stainless steel to wood for a unique embroidery project, and it held up beautifully, even with the added weight of magnets. It can also be used to glue coins or other metal objects to an upright mirrored surface, just be sure to let it fully dry before positioning vertically. When it came to attaching door pulls to a mirrored closet door or gluing rhinestones onto a heat-producing flat iron (up to 400°F), this adhesive delivered impressive results. However, for extremely high heat applications over 400°F, you’ll likely need a more heat-resistant adhesive.

One question I get a lot is about the difference between E6000 and its cousin, E6800. The main distinction is that E6800 has an additional UV stabilizer, making it better suited for projects that will be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. But for most indoor or shaded outdoor projects, good ol’ E6000 will do the trick just fine.

As for the type of adhesive, E6000 is not an epoxy or acrylic based glue. It’s more of a rubber-based, medium viscosity industrial adhesive. This gives it that flexible, waterproof, and durable hold. While it can bond many materials like metal to rubber or glass, it may not be ideal for a pure glass-to-glass bond, especially if water resistance is needed. For those applications, an etching primer and specific glass glue may work better.

❌Limitations

Now, it’s important to note that this adhesive does have its limitations. While it’s great for bonding leather and most materials, you’ll want to be careful when using it on items that will be exposed to extreme heat or direct sunlight for extended periods. The glue may not hold up as well in those conditions. And if you’re trying to hang a large mirror on the wall, you’ll likely need a more heavy-duty adhesive or mounting system.

Now, let’s talk about the not-so-pleasant aspects of using E6000. It can have a pretty strong odor, which can be tough to get out of clothing, even after washing. My advice? Work in a well-ventilated area and consider using vinegar and baking soda to help neutralize any lingering smells.

FAQ of E6000

Q: Can this glue be used to adhere glass to metal, such as a car window to a metal track?

A: It’s not recommended to use this glue for car windows. It’s best to use an adhesive specifically made for car windows.

Q: Can D6000 adhere metal to wood, such as metal knobs to a wooden coat rack?

A: It’s not certain if this glue will work for this purpose, as it may depend on the amount of strain put on the object.

Q: How can this glue be cleaned up?

A: Use a disposable item such as a toothpick, q-tip, or straw for cleanup.

Q: What is the maximum temperature that this adhesive can withstand for a ceramic plate setter in a grill/smoker?

A: It’s unlikely that this glue is designed to withstand such high temperatures.

Q: Is E6000 resistant to gasoline and does it harden?

A: It’s uncertain if this glue is resistant to gasoline, but constant exposure to gasoline may erode the bond. The glue remains somewhat flexible when it dries. However, I’ve listed the best epoxy for gas tank repair that should be resistant to gasoline, feel free to read it.
