Gorilla Glue Vs Liquid Nails: Bond Rubber to Concrete, Wood to Drywall, Glass and Metal

Last updated on March 18, 2024 / Reviewed by Ronald, a 🎖️10-year Adhesive Industry Veteran  @stickyaides in 🌉San Francisco

Gorilla Glue Vs Liquid Nails: What’s The Difference?

The Gorilla glue required some serious scraping once cured, while the Liquid Nails wiped up easily with soap and water. And for sealing cracks and gaps, the Liquid Nails seeped into spaces better than the Gorilla. So for heavy-duty repairs, especially outdoors, the Gorilla Glue bonded materials with an iron grip. But for quick indoor fixes where a little flexibility is okay, the Liquid Nails offered a good temporary solution.

My Hands-on Test: Clear Gorilla Glue

Gorilla Clear Glue
Gorilla Glue is an incredibly strong and easy-to-use adhesive that bonds virtually everything, including wood, stone, metal, ceramic, foam, and glass.

✅Pros

It is crystal clear, non-foaming, and water-resistant, making it perfect for a variety of projects.

Fix the Top Door Hinge

One time, I had a top door hinge completely tear out of the door frame, leaving stripped holes and cracked wood behind.

Without hesitation, I applied a generous amount of Gorilla Glue to the area where the hinge attached to the door frame and carefully stuck the hinge back on. I decided to let it set overnight for optimal results. The next day, I reattached the door, and you won’t believe what happened—it held the door emoticon - door hinge on a door frameperfectly! Now, I must clarify that this is a light mobile home door, but still, the strength and durability of the glue impressed me beyond measure. I can almost hear the purists doubting its effectiveness, but the fact remains that this glue has exceeded my wildest expectations.

Fix a Cofee Table Wheel

Clear Gorilla Glue Explained

Another instance where this glue saved the day was when I needed to fix a wheel that had come off the bottom of my coffee table. After reattaching the wheel with the glue, I patiently allowed it to dry for a full two days. Once I flipped the coffee table over, it was as good as new! The glue held strong, and I was relieved to see that I didn’t have to resort to using it for my hair, despite its incredible performance (haha, just kidding!).

❌Cons

Just keep in mind that you’ll need to find a way to hold the two items together for about an hour while the glue semi-dries. If you’re in a hurry, there’s a super glue version available, but it does come at a higher cost and with a smaller quantity.

My Hands-on Test: Liquid Nails LN-700 Adhesive

Liquid Nails LN-700 Adhesive
For me, Liquid Nails has proven to be an excellent wood filler, putty, and glue. I’ve used it in places where nails aren’t necessary, such as bathrooms or against concrete and cement blocks. It’s the go-to solution when I want to attach something securely for an extended period.

✅Pros: Liquid Nails

The hold is dependable and strong, and the price is great, making it even more appealing.

Refasten the Moldings

One of the projects where Liquid Nails truly impressed me was when I needed to refasten the moldings on my kitchen cabinets. It did the job flawlessly, providing a strong hold that I can trust. In fact, I’ve come to rely on it for almost everything because I know it won’t budge once it sets.

Size and Quality

What I appreciate most about Liquid Nails is its size and quality. The tube I purchased was a decent size, and the adhesive itself is of high quality, ensuring its effectiveness. I’ve used it before, which is why I chose to buy it again. It has never let me down in the past, and it continues to work well.

Filling Cracks in Wood

When it comes to filling cracks in wood or attaching wood pieces together, Liquid Nails is my go-to choice. It outperforms wood filler for small cracks, and I prefer it over wood glues.

❌Cons: Liquid Nails

FAQ

Q: Can Liquid Nails be utilized for binding rubber to concrete?

A: In the past, I successfully used it to adhere wood to bricks, so there’s a chance it might work for rubber-to-concrete bonding.

Q: If you start using Liquid Nails, must you finish the entire tube to prevent it from drying?

A: If you tightly seal the container or tube with the lid, it shouldn’t dry out. However, I did find that Liquid Nail takes a long time to dry.

Q: What is the best method for removing something affixed with Liquid Nail?

A: For dry materials, I suggest scraping off the adhesive and then wiping the surface with mineral spirits.

Q: Will it be sturdy enough to hold a baseboard in place?

A: Rest assured the LN700 will provide ample strength to hold your baseboard securely. Just make sure to properly prepare and clean both bonding surfaces beforehand.

Q: Are there additional nozzles available?

A: This particular version comes in a squeeze tube and doesn’t include nozzles. However, we do offer caulking gun tubes that come with nozzles.

Q: Can it effectively fill holes in the wall from drilling or nailing?

A: As an adhesive, it didn’t perform exceptionally well, but even Elmer’s glue would suffice for filling holes.

Q: When using it for wood-to-wood bonding, is clamping necessary or can you simply press the pieces together?

A: While clamping may not be essential for joint strength, it is advisable to at least lightly clamp the pieces. Firstly, it prevents the joint from shifting due to gravity. Additionally, clamping helps to remove excess adhesive, resulting in a neater joint appearance.
