Gs Hypo Cement Glue Review

GS Hypo Cement Product Pic
I accidentally dropped my favorite and very sentimental watch recently. Two of the small chronograph dials popped out. After researching, I learned super glue was a bad idea for watch repair. This specialty glue was highly recommended instead. I applied a tiny amount with a toothpick, as suggested since the glue can be stringy.

✅Pros: GS Hypo Cement

With patience and steady hands, I fixed my watch successfully! The glue held the tiny dials in place perfectly. I’m so relieved I could fix my treasured watch myself.

A great thing about this cement is that it doesn’t need heat to activate. There’s a tiny, almost pin-hole-sized tip on the applicator that dispenses just the right amount of glue. For such precise application, it may take a few seconds for the glue to appear.

While G-S Hypo Cement looks like rubber cement, it’s actually an acrylic-based cement. For projects where appearance matters, it dries clear and doesn’t yellow.

It excels at restoring vintage rhinestone jewelry without yellowing or discoloring over time. It enables applying just the right amount around cup edges to securely replace stones.

Dries Clear and Does Not Degrade

Many glues ruin rhinestone finishes but this one dries clear and does not degrade. I restored jewelry back in the 80s with it that still looks gorgeous. Opaque stones like pearls are best set with a gel super glue. But for clear rhinestones, this cement is unparalleled.

holding GS Hypo Cement
I must say that I love using G-S Hypo Cement glue for my jewelry making as well, specifically for gluing knots on stretch cording.

No Terrible Smell

Unlike some other glues, it doesn’t have a terrible smell and is priced well in line with the stores. The convenience of not having to get lost in aisles of distractions is a huge plus.

GS Hypo Cement Industrial Assembly
The fine-tip applicator makes it super easy to hit the right spot without getting glue on my beads.

❌Cons: GS Hypo Cement

While the glue itself is exceptional, there are a couple of drawbacks that I encountered. Firstly, the fine tip on my tube seemed to have disappeared, possibly pushed down inside. This made it slightly less accurate to work with, especially since my eyesight isn’t what it once was. Additionally, I found the cap challenging to put back on, especially if there was any glue oozing out. Despite these minor inconveniences, the glue remained usable.

💬 FAQ of GS Hypo Cement

Q: Can G-S Hypo Cement be used to bond sterling silver or copper wire to itself?

A: G-S Hypo Cement is effective for bonding clean, non-porous surfaces, but it works best on flat surfaces. It is not a super-glue type adhesive, so if you need a permanent bond, a different adhesive may be necessary. We recommend trying G-S Hypo Cement first to see if it works for your specific application. If not, residue can be removed with rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, or acetone.

Q: How suitable is G-S Hypo Cement for use with BeadalonBeadalon Elasticityand other stretchy cords used in beading?

A: G-S Hypo Cement is a versatile adhesive that works well with most types of cords. It is often used to seal beading knots and for illusion jewelry among other applications. (I’ve written about e6000 vs b7000 for jewelryE6000 vs. B7000. Feel free to read it.) It maintains some flexibility even after drying, dries clear, and will not become yellow over time. It is a liquid adhesive, and the manufacturer can provide tips for new users upon request.

Q: Does G-S Hypo Cement release with heat?

A: G-S Hypo Cement is a highly flammableemoticon - flammable product and should not be heated for any purpose. However, it’s unclear whether it releases with heat as it has not been tested for that purpose.

Q: Is G-S Hypo Cement just rubber cement in a tube with a narrow applicator?

A: No, G-S Hypo Cement is not rubber cement. Rubber cement has a pliable, non-sturdy bond that can be pulled apart easily, while G-S Hypo Cement is closer to super glue. It creates a stiff and sturdy bond, dries clear, and is effective for bonding different materials together. BTW, I’ve compiled a list of best rubber cement. Feel free to read it.

I'm searching for a less toxic alternative to E6000 to glue small metal centers to the elastic or suede fabric. Could G-S Hypo Cement work?

G-S Hypo Cement is a medium-strength adhesive, and it might be worth trying for your application. However, it may not be the best option as the small metal centers may rub off easily, especially if the material is elastic. It is still worth giving it a shot.

Shoe Glue Alternative: An Honest Review of E6000 Adhesive

E6000
E6000 industrial adhesive has become an indispensable part of my toolkit over the years. Its incredible versatility in bonding a wide range of materials is what sets it apart from other glues on the market.

✅Adhere Fabric to Almost Any Surface

Right off the bat, let me highlight E6000’s ability to adhere fabric to almost any surface. Whether it’s gluing fabric draperies to metal rods (even when the ends tend to sag at first), bonding fabric patches to leather items like Bible covers or motorcycle vests, or attaching fabric embellishments like rhinestone belts to sashes, this adhesive delivers a secure and long-lasting hold.

I tested how well E6000 works for rhinestones and fabric

But E6000 isn’t just limited to fabrics – it excels at bonding plastics, acrylics, and even glass surfaces. I’ve used it successfully to glue acrylic pieces together, though a thin layer is recommended to maintain clarity. It works brilliantly on plexiglass too! And for those heavy-duty projects, like reattaching a car bumper or gluing ram horns onto a metal knight helmet, E6000’s industrial strength ensures a bond that can withstand weight and wear.

E6000 for jewelry-making

One area where I’d exercise caution is using E6000 on surfaces that come into direct contact with food or skin, as it’s not designed for those applications. However, for most other materials like leather, metal, fiberglass (though epoxy may be better for rigid fiberglass bonds), plastic, and more, this adhesive is a reliable choice.

Gorilla Silicone vs GE Silicone

Speaking of materials, it’s worth noting that E6000 comes in different viscosities – high and medium. The high viscosity version is thicker and perfect for vertical applications or when you need a more substantial bond, while the medium viscosity offers easier spreadability for general use.

One question I often get is about the appearance of the dried adhesive. While E6000 does dry clear, the transparency can be affected by the thickness of the layer. For projects that require optimal clarity, like bonding acrylic or glass pieces, a very thin application is recommended to minimize visibility.

E6000 vs. E6000 Plus

E6000 vs. E6000 Plus: Reattach Fabric Ends of Metal Rod, Cracks in Insulated Cups & Acrylic Pieces

In terms of longevity, E6000 is a champ. I’ve used it to reattach leather purse straps, and the bond remains strong and flexible over time. And while it does cure to a hard finish, giving it the maximum recommended cure time ensures the best long-lasting results.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “But what if I need to remove the bond later?” Well, fear not! Despite its tenacious hold, E6000 is water-soluble even after curing. I’ve successfully soaked adhered items in soapy water to separate them for reuse or adjustments.

❌A Few Minor Drawbacks

While the E6000 Glue excelled in most areas, there were a few minor drawbacks to consider. Firstly, it does have a strong odor, so using it in a well-ventilated area is advisable. Additionally, the lack of a precision tip can sometimes result in excess glue oozing out, potentially creating a mess during delicate jewelry projects. However, these minor inconveniences did not significantly detract from the overall performance and reliability of the glue.

💬 FAQ of E6000 Adhesive

Q: My T-shirts still have a nauseating smell even after washing them. How can I eliminate this smell?

A: I haven’t encountered this issue myself since I use E600 for all my projects. You can try using a mixture of vinegar and baking soda as I mentioned in super glue and baking soda strength followed by a regular wash. Hopefully, that should help eliminate the smell.

Q: Can E6000 be used for a vacuum hose connected to a truck mount?

A: I don’t believe so. You might need a vice clamp for that.

Q: Is E6000 suitable for bonding fabric and metal together permanently?

A: I think a 2-part epoxy glue would be a good option. See also 1 part epoxy vs 2 part.

Q: I want to glue coins to a mirrored medicine cabinet. Will E6000 effectively bond metal to glass in an upright position?

A: Once the glue is dry, it should hold the coins in place. However, if the cabinet is upright before the glue completely dries, the coins may slide down.
