You might have to wait longer than the claimed 8 minute setting time (I recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before handling the repaired item or letting it cure overnight for optimal results), but the end result is worth it.

Cracked Coolant Passage

The coolant passage was cracked, so I fixed it myself. Broke out the TIG welder and carefully laid down a solid bead to seal it up tight. For a little extra peace of mind, I also smeared on a touch of Permatex cold weld around the freshly welded area. It’s a darn good thing I had the foresight to dig into the motor while it was already torn out for the transmission overhaul.

If I hadn’t been so meticulous, I might’ve thrown everything back together only to find myself chasing down a pesky coolant leak later on. Gotta pat myself on the back for being thorough and catching that crack before it came back to bite me in the ass.

How to Use Permatex Cold Weld?
